Words shared with Brendan and Jo—vows spoken at the altar, toasts from friends, and love from the people who know them best.

The Ceremony

James Paul Mecca

Officiant

Family and friends and everyone gathered here today. We all unite today for one reason. Marriage. Marriage is what brings us together today. And today, we are here for Brendan and Jo. We gather around them now in this wonderful place and look on with love and hope as these two begin their new life together, as one. Marriage is a sacred tradition in our culture. It's a tradition of partnership, of trust, and of dependence on one another to navigate the sometimes stormy seas of life. People have said that marriage requires things like work, commitment and sacrifice, and certainly all of those are true. No matter what it looks like in the end, a healthy marriage always needs a solid foundation.

It begins with love, to be sure, but what does that mean? People say they love chocolate—is that the same as the love we need for marriage? Of course not. The love we need comes from being committed to working through everything together and maintaining open communications, even when it is difficult. The love we need makes the work it takes to maintain it all worthwhile. On top of that foundation of love, a mixture of work, sacrifice and commitment, we can build things like trust and intimacy, and all of the beautiful things that make a marriage worth it.

Brendan and Joellica, are you ready to proclaim that foundation of love for one another in the sight of the heavens and these witnesses?

Brendan Andrew Mecca, do you take Joellica to be your lawfully wedded wife? Will you honor and cherish her, love and trust, and commit to her, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?

Brendan: "Absolutely"

Joellica Marie McKean, do you take Brendan to be your lawfully wedded husband? Will you honor and cherish him, love and trust, and commit to him, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?

Joellica: "I do"

At this time Brendan and Jo will exchange rings. The wedding ring is a symbol of binding, a symbol of attachment and of belonging—not possession, but of partnership.

Brendan, please repeat after me: Joellica Marie McKean, I promise to love you and commit to you my whole life. I promise to be there for you when you need me, to be honest to you, to be faithful to you, and to walk through the valleys of life together, just as we will stand atop mountains together too.

Joellica, please repeat after me: Brendan Andrew Mecca, I promise to love you and commit to you my whole life. I promise to be there for you when you need me, to be honest to you, to be faithful to you, and to walk through the valleys of life together, just as we will stand atop mountains together too.

Brendan and Joellica, having proclaimed your love and commitment to one another in the eyes of these loved ones, and with the power vested in me by the Universal Life Church and the state of Pennsylvania, I am so happy to pronounce you Husband and Wife.

You may now kiss the bride.

Best Man

No matter what had happened, we've stuck with each other through it all. No doubt in my mind that if anyone needed something, Brendan is still that friend that has shown up on the drop of a dime and dropped everything to be a shoulder to lean on and also tell you the reality of your situation. A good man.

Since knowing Brendan, I've watched him grow over the years. From a little brother, yes, I know, I'm the "big brother", which you wouldn't know from looking at us! From my little brother playing video games in each other's rooms, to watching us move through high school together and now to today. I've spent a good amount of time taking in the sights here. I'm flooded with memories of our childhood that seem like yesterday. I still don't believe I'm giving this speech right now on one of the most important days of his life with an incredible woman who he wishes to share his life with.

Jo. You've had such a great impact on my brother and best friend. Your kind and caring spirit matches the large energy Brendan brings with him everywhere. To advancing your careers, to supporting him with producing music to even making all this possible is incredible. When I first met you Jo, you were so sweet and also yelled at Brendan in such a fun and playful manner. It was seamless and the tough love attitude that matches you both so well. I'm also still surprised how well you played board games that night, especially after telling us that you weren't very good at them, then proceeding to kick our butts.

Today and tonight is a celebration and dedication to a couple with great foundations, wonderful family and friends as well as a bright future together as Mr. and Mrs. Mecca. Even in the moments where you both want to probably hit each other with your motorcycles, you have found common understanding and push through. You both know what you want and you want it with and for each other. No force can stop you guys and everyone here supports and loves the love you guys share. So let's raise a glass. Raise it high and give toast to the new bride and groom and for a wonderful future full of health, friends, brutal jokes and most importantly love. Congratulations guys and I am honored to be your best man tonight Brendan!

Groomsman

Crazy to think our friendship started because of a game of League of Legends through an OSRS team speak server. What began as random matches turned into a lifelong friendship. I was honored to stand beside Brendan as one of his groomsmen on his wedding day, and I'll always be grateful he stood beside me at mine. Life has a funny way of bringing people together, and I'm thankful it brought us together. Love you, brother.

Jo, getting to watch you come into Brendan's life has been such a beautiful thing. Seeing the happiness, love, and peace you've brought him has been incredible, and it's been amazing to watch him truly flourish. Thank you for loving one of my best friends so well. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness together. The two of you are truly meant for each other.
